HARE’S REPORT – I may have made a few mistakes on this run: it may have had an upside down T- Bar and been a bit long, but there we go…., it may have had a bit of a watery start before heading up into the estate.  General confusion reigned at the aforementioned T bar and numbered bars were a tad confusing.  Heading towards Waterside Holiday Park where we encountered a loose horse, Rosie, Pollocks and Steve gave a great Robert Redford Horse Whisperer impression before heading up the hill.  Dilly’s Patrick Moore impression went down very well. No space now for Rosie.    Boulders.

GM’s REPORT - Sadly sat on the sofa with a very bad in-growing toe nail which seems to be giving a small amount of knee pain.  Watching the clock, decided to ring the pub about 8ish but hash hadn’t returned , so waited a further 10mins and rang again, still no sight of hash, gave another 10 mins and rang again, HASH STILL NOT BACK.  Considered ringing the emergency services at this point to get the police helicopter out.  OR  Maybe we should change our name to the SUB85…  Other than time out, apparently a very good hash.  Bookend.

AGM’s REPORT - After his unfortunate ‘Rabbit in the headlights’ accident while out ‘training’ for hashing, Bookend suffered a major injury to his knee so he phoned me (Rosie) to be acting GM (AGM) for this Hash. I was issued with the hash cash, log book and a set of instructions for the evening’s run. Having called the pre-run circle, my first duty was to award a centurion a pint of cider for having completed his 100^th hash last time out. Shirtlifter was called forward and after a chorus of ‘get a life’ was given his pre-run down down. The hare, Boulders, then addressed the circle and informed the assembled pack that it was Australia Day so all fish hooks would be Boomerangs accompanied by a number. He also said there were several ‘T’ bars also with a number, which caused great confusion as it apparently meant we met them more than once.  

 After heading West towards Weymouth we were directed through the river Jordan under the main road towards the Bridge Inn, it was then that the confusion got worse, Boulders had set his ‘T’ bars the wrong way, but got around it by reminding everybody that it was Australia day and therefore all ‘T’ bars were upside down – what a cop out !!! Past the Bridge Inn, around the Preston estate a couple of times and back towards the Bridge Inn but this time it was on past the Donkey sanctuary to Puddledock lane. A regroup then directed us back towards the Spice Ship, but with the use of some clever bars we were directed towards St Anne’s Church and hence missed the pub, which was a shame ‘cause at this point it was a Sub60 !! Anyway past the Church and through some wonderfully starlit fields towards the Haven holiday camp. At this point we were being led by COTK and GTM who apparently had jogged along Preston Beach road and along this route to the pub. The leading by COTK was short lived as we were startled by a horse that had somehow got out of its paddock, and knowing COTK’s fear of horse she jumped over the nearest style towards a bar, despite Rosie’s gallant attempts to lead the horse away, it was always going to be the winner. Honest John then spotted a phone number for the local stables but unfortunately all he got was an answering machine. The horse meanwhile had now headed off along the trail so while Just Steve took charge of the horse, Rosie did the noble thing and led COTK back on trail. On we continued until we regrouped at Bowleaze amusements’, much watch checking revealed we had about 5 mins to get back to the pub, but never mind if we were late Boulders assured us he had his credit card to buy a round and anyway the horse had delayed us by 5 mins. So from here it must be back across the field to the pub, but no, it was up the hill towards Weymouth then right towards the Roman Villa and finally we veered towards the pub. When we finally came out on Preston road a regroup awaited us, at this point the AGM had sussed there was another loop across the road and back to some numbered ‘T’ bars that we had passed earlier. But due to the time factor a unanimous decision was taken for ON INN.  We finally arrived back at the pub at 08.20 – even allowing for a few minutes at the start and the Shergar incident we were still over the hour mark – nonetheless a bloody good run despite the backward ‘T’ bars.

HARES’ REPORT- 12-01-12 LIVE HASH:-  Set off, like shit off a shovel. Confused hash from the start, ran first mile non stop !!!     Waited to be caught  – B’stard the copper took flour from me and fucked off!!  No one caught him back for 8pm. Used all my flour.

GM’s REPORT-  In someways it’s great to see B’stard back on the Sub60, but in other ways it’s not.  For a start I will have to trawl through the hash records again and find out how many hashes he has done to update the front runners page. Secondly he hasn’t a clue about catch the hare live hashes, once he got that valuable bag of flour he was off for home. Thirdly he’s got a problem with water, he couldn’t resist heading straight for the Littlemoor duck pond and laying the trail right through the middle of the pond. But luckily he didn’t mark it that well so the hash skirted around the edge and picked up the trail on the other side. But it is a future warning that if he is hare then water maybe in the equation. Good old Boulders gave a cautionary posting on Facebook about the possibility of speeding traps on the Dorchester road, as if the police would lay a trap on an evening of peace and reverence. Anyway Boulders’ mum wasn’t too pleased that it was let out that she was caught speeding. So Boulders was punished for dobbing.

 Had a very poor start, the complete pack could not find the trail, so after 10mins of looking a bar was crossed and the trail found (GM got the blame for this and was DDed, as he was apparently told by the hare the start route).  Route went around back of pub, through new housing estate and picked up new road footpath, went in the direction of Littlemoor and picked up old Bincombe rd back in the direction of Upwey. Corn on the Knob after a long absence forgot what a Sub60 regroup looks like and just kept running, but Kipper called everybody back to the regroup. B’stard took on the role of hare and headed through Littlemoor estate to the New Inn , small loop on other side of road and eventually trail ended up at Littlemoor duck pond, around the pond and then back up to Dorchester road by the vets, crossed the road and down over the fields for a loop around Upwey to finish right by the pub.

Disaster of a catch the hare hash , as he only got caught once, looking for at least six hare changes in future maybe we will do a better job next time. However B’stard did a good job of laying the live trail, finishing in perfect time with good pace, regroups and fooling the hounds on several occasions. Overall very good fun hash.      Bookend

G.M’s REPORT: What a great turnout, 50 in total, we were given the whole rear of the pub for a sit down  buffet style curry, followed by GM’s very long and boring speech (opinion of some people). It was done on purpose to try and make H5N1 go cold turkey from her fags, but she just sneaked off anyway, while the rest of the hash listened intently “not” with crossed legs otherwise they may pee themselves. We had one heckler, Bumblebee who finally came out the closet and admitted that he wanted to be a woman and change his name to Henrietta and his hash name to Honeypot.  A little bit of a set up one thinks but what a good sport, as he again  proved on the hardy hash the next morning by being given a bra and panties to wear whilst running around Dorchester. He had a fair few lifted eyebrows and a lot of sniggers and stares, but no desperate wolf whistles from builders. Kipper came on and did a few crappy jokes, pretending to be I think ‘Lee Evans’ by the way he was charging up and down the floor. Apparently his jokes were really crappy this year one of them even bringing silence, which was funny in itself , well done Kipper excellent effort. Carried on with a few down downs for newcomers and general stupid behaviour (see below) and a hash song ‘Sunshine Mountain’ which CK conducted and got everybody standing on their chairs, doing all the actions much to the worry of the landlord who didn’t want his chairs broken after his recent refurb.Finished up with our own two piece band singing various rock and pop covers which I think nearly everybody got up and danced at one time or another. In all, the venue, food, band were all excellent which all in all made a very entertaining and excellent Sub60 XMAS hash night.  Bookend

Throwing onion bargees not just around the restaurant but at the hash flash whilst he was carrying out important hash business.  Were made to eat  onion bargees that they had chucked They also got showered with onion bargees from the rest of the hash.

HARES’ Report:    Dill Don’ts report - MOIST . (apparently written after 6 pints)

Hooker’s report- Developed a new kind of trail substance-very wet sawdust mixed with flour. Turns out this is quite effective, looks a bit like cereal (which turned out to be a bit misleading for anyone who subsequently expected a weetabix hash!) and  dog poo, which meant that a number of dodgy hoodies who observed us laying the trail, didn’t dare to mess with it! Now only the wind and rain to deal with…. Decided to not do too many false trails as we predicted people keen to get back to pub and they wouldn’t survive wind.

Tried to find some new paths, cut through, and unfortunately due to getting lost in some estates, there were a few longer straights than planned.     All worked out OK 5.2 miles in Sub60!!         Hooker.

GM’s Report:   Long and fast for a Sub60  but everyone kept up: there were no complaints and most hounds were happy to have a bit of a workout to get rid of some of the Xmas extra lbs (in the case of Cupid Stunt apparently 5lbs and Steve Roberts 11 lbs, but who’s telling).   Hope Pollocks & I don’t get a parking ticket as we left our vehicles in the railway car park without tickets in them but neither of us could get the card machine to work , and both being blind we didn’t notice the pay machine in the opposite corner of the car park until after the run.

Route did small loop around Park area ending up crossing Commercial road at Bowling Green, picking up the Rodwell trail and running around the Swannery car park, On on, up Radipole Park drive cutting into the Park and crossing the railway footbridge towards Lodmoor, false trail for nearly all the pack but luckily not too far.   Looped back and then headed towards Dorchester road via Westbourne road area, and Lodmoor Hill housing estate. Crossed the main road and went down Weymouth Bay ave to end up in Lodmoor country park, on in via Weymouth College.

First time for the Sub60 at the Railway Tavern, the landlord had promised the hares that he would put some food on for us , which he forgot so the hares resulted to plan B, running up to the fish and chip shop and providing everybody with chip butties,  which filled the gap lovely. Nearly everybody hung around for a beer or two at the end which ended up with a few of us having cocktails at the Nook at about half past two, Hooker and Something Else building impressive glass and bottle towers.  All in all a very good night.       Bookend.

HARES REPORT: Our first Sub60 hash and we think it was brillant! H4 instead of Sub60? Pah! Not enough dust? Er, snow, actually! Losing the pack? As reindeers, if you can’t stay with the pack then frankly you’re a rubbish reindeeer! Arse-about-face T-bar? No excuse for that really although they are illogical. Anyway, there are no rules. If there are no rules, what can possible be wrong?

Ok, so it didn’t go entirely according to plan but we enjoyed laying out first Sub60 and now appreciate the effort that goes into being a hare. Especially when you invite 30 odd hounds to your house afterwards, to eat and drink you out of house and home.

So going with the festive “Rudolph” theme we tried to think of suitable adaptions to the hash. Firstly, Alison, or No FinIdeer as she is now affectionately known ( NoFI for short?), decided we needed to be good hares or, should I say, deers, and don a suitable naff reindeer outfit. We also thought we’d give the route as much variety as possible to reflect the variety of terrain experienced by real reindeers delivering our presents on Christmas Eve  (yes, he does exists!). In brief it went: The Marsh, bowling centre re-group, top of the Rodwell Trail, Westam Bridge re-group, Library, Beach, Town Bridge, Chapelhay Tavern re-group, Love lane, Rodwell trail, back of Chickerell Road, Markham Avenue re-group, Markham & Little Francis and then “On4One” ( see what we did? Rubbish reindeers didn’t either).

We also thought it would be fitting for a herd of reindeer to assemble at re-groups (represented by festive symbols: mince pie, christmas tree, holly) and sing a X-mas carol. And finally our trail was in snow of course and not flour. Oh what fun….

So that was the plan…                The naff costumes arrived predictably. The route certaintly had variety, although surprisingly, looked very different under darknesss, and by Town Bridge the herd was slightly thinning. We managed a good refrain of Jingle Bells at the first re-group (once found-rubbish reindeers), slightly less good attempt at Frosty the Snowman at the second (found okay but who the f*** knows the words? I’ve no idea…) and a 45rpm instead of a 33rpm version of We Wish You A Merry Christmas at the third because we were running a touch late (waiting for Circus Boy to get off his head, so to speak, in our view). Oh and the fourth re-group, and the Twelve Days Of Christmas? Er, we didn’t make it… As for the snow trail? Well, its snow and some of it melted of course. Losers!!!

So what did we learn?

1. Dont invite hashers into your house to abuse you after a rubbish hash, or should that be a “good” hash?

2. Ok, ok, more flour. And closer together. And fewer false trails.

3. 4.5miles is about okay for a Sub-60 but see lesson 2. Otherwise the pack strings out, moans about lack of dust, gets lost, gets hacked off, goes home.

4. If 2 and 3 stand, then the crazy front runners can do crazy front running and feel good.

And that’s it. Next time will be even better.                   Why we can’t simply cut out the middle bit and get down to the drinking buisness- especially at Christmas- I still have no F***ing idea…

GM s  REPORT : what a great Xmas hash , thank you to our hares and host for all their efforts.   Started with a good group picture outside hares’ house (GM had a few problems with camera & took several attempts) on on , led us up towards Admiral Hardy despite a few hounds coming across the ‘on inn’ or was it ON 1 , could have been a very short hash, would have definitely been under the hour. From the Admiral trail led us out behind the swimming pool and over the marsh to our first regroup at the athletics stadium car park, a JINGLE BELLS regroup. Our singing would have made a Welsh choir proud. Trail went onto and around the athletics track  to the far corner and then back up towards the Y.A.C.  At this point found a couple of young hashers running towards us, how they got there I don’t know.  On on lead us up onto Abbotsbury road and a loop back onto the Rodwell trail (hare front running at this point). Meeting our second regroup at the old Westham bridge, a FROSTY THE SNOWMAN regroup which sadly no one seemed to know  the words to, so alot of ‘LA LA LAS, were used instead. Route went along harbour and cut up into town by the library. Disaster at this point as false trail leads half the pack in one direction without a hare and the rest in the correct direction with both hares . Lost pack headed for town bridge and luckily found the rest of the pack. Trail led us up over Chapelhay to our third regroup, a WISH YOU A MERRY XMAS regroup , which was sung very hastily. On on up towards Boot Hill but going down Love Lane , apparently got its name from being the local knocking shop for sailors in years gone past (bit of kipper history). Lost hound at this point ‘Rosie’ belayed for home, or maybe a beer. Trail headed towards home via estate above Chickerell Road.  Back for a few beers ,chilli and mince pies.

Although the hares put an excellent trail on,  it was decided that the amount of misdemeanours on laying  this hash could not go overlooked, and as both hares had not been given hash names , a double naming ceremony was called for. The theme being Rudolf , names were put forward and a vote was taken.

Their new hash names are     Alison  – NO ’F’ INDEER   Rob – STILL NO ‘F’ INDEER.

I don’t quite understand what happened as when we set the run I thought it was all on tarmac, but the second time around there appeared to be quite a lot of shiggy! Oh well it’s a Hash !  The weather was really poor so to see such a large enthusiastic group gathering in the lobby at Redlands was really pleasing. Then I realised this was the ladies spinning class, our motley group were hiding behind them. ON ON- wet, windy, muddy but fun. We gained an extra pair of legs along the way, and I am sure they will be around for awhile.  Following various paths and cross country routes we found a beer stop- minus Rosie and Boulders who had decided to race back to the bar. Impromptu birthday party for me and then back to Redlands, I had set up a disco and we danced till dawn!

GMS REPORT

Another really wet run with no let up in the weather, I blame the newest hasher Just Steve , second run , second drenching (jinx-er).     Started off with a very quick circle , Hashy Birthday to Dilly for a quick down down, 54 I do believe.  What a surprise to find out that Organgrinder and BOF were having a work’s do at the same time and place as the hash so we decided to crash the party, ignoring and  pretending  not to know both of them but when there stood right in front of you that is a bit hard unless your name’s Nobby: apparently he managed it.  Thank you BOF and Sandy for the sandwiches.

Route started with a short loop around the centre and out into Redlands housing estate , onto Dorchester road and then to Manor roundabout, loads of false trails at this point with hashers in all directions. Down Lorton lane and over to the famous Weymouth pineapple at the park and ride. Heading off towards the rugby ground , but cutting down a very muddy bank and heading over a very muddy field towards the Spa pub: faller at this point (Dill Don’t) . Trail went in direction of Radipole village, picked up a footpath behind Radipole Church – Radipole Manor to end up at Radipole School.  On to a welcoming beer stop on the new housing estate at Redlands.

A big thank you to Cracked Lips and Jonnie for letting a very soggy hash including 2 dogs into their house, which let me add Bernie ran to on the promise of a beer , think that’s 3 times I’ve seen her run this year. Celebrating Dilly’s birthday with  a few mince pies, nibbles and birthday cake made with chilli jam and then a cold run back to Redlands.  It was nice to see the joker back from Holiday still causing most of the mayhem: firstly, splashing most of the hashers who were stupid enough to stand next to a puddle, secondly, make two harriettes jump out of their skins by jumping out from behind a bush in a dark alley, thirdly, pretending to be an Xmas decoration with half a Santa Claus in somebody’s garden light display, fourthly, by pushing Steve a new hasher down a very muddy bank ,who had just done a very noble deed of helping four harriettes up this bank.      Was this man in Scotland like he said he was , or was he on a cruise ship like the pic below suggests??  A couple of harriettes inserted poor Santa up the nearest thing they could find to a chimney !      Bookend

HARES REPORT:- hares words for run 571  1st December 11 – The first days of winter.

Running time – very close to 60 minutes – I made it 59 mins, 59 secs.

It was so wet, I was amazed anyone turned up but they did. The house with the fantastic festive lights display was so good we went past it twice before going out to the dark of the new grounds and trails made available since the recent road construction finished. Two young hounds led nearly the whole flock, I mean pack, off in the wrong direction for 10 minutes on the strength of seeing a light patch of mud that looked vaguely like flour. Confusion reigned briefly when the young harriettes, knitting circle suddenly found themselves front running on the dark moorland trail and weren’t sure what to call out. The new running check mark was seen as a great success at least it was by me. Doubt set in about getting back inside the hour at ten to eight but a final charge through alleys and woods brought everyone on inn just in time. And then we drank the pub out of beer.        S/L.

GMs REPORT :- Thank you to everybody who turned up, 20 in total , Shirtlifter had emailed me about 4.00 pm that day informing me of the ‘good news’ that by seven o’clock the rain would have stopped, of course it didn’t.  He signed it from a very soggy hasher.

The hare laid a very clever trail leading down many new paths and across between the new Littlemoor duck ponds. He sent the pack on quite a few wild goose chases without doing too much running himself. Even thou the hare laid a good hash he had to be punished for the following reasons: for a start it was def over the hour, he used Hardy regroups instead of Sub60, and he invented his own Xmas themed check the STAR OF SHIRTLIFTER,  which he went on to ‘bullshit’ that it appeared on a Sub60 some eight years ago, after discussion, with Kipper and Welly they seemed to agree that he had made it up as he was going along.

 Route did small loop on north side of Littlemoor before ending up at the new roundabouts then up over the hill in the direction of the lookout  before eventually following the new road down  to cross the bridge onto Lorton Lane then a quick run via Toy town to end up at Broadwey station under the railway bridge to cut back to the pub.

         In future hounds should be more observant of misdemeanors, and inform either the GM or the hare of these infringements so the correct people can be punished for them. The GM has punished people in recent hashes for  incorrect lighting . This is done in the interest of safety and hygiene, either falling over and breaking your neck or standing in dog shit, or even worse both. So guess who didn’t have any lighting this week and he had brand new sparkly trainers on and no one reported him to the hare!!

HARE’S REPORT : this run makes use of the many droves in the area. These routes many of which are now public right of ways, were used for driving cattle from pastures to villages and markets. This hash runs alongside hedgerows, crosses farmland and skirts some woodland so you were likely to spot a number of local birds, mammals, and insects. If you are lucky you may have seen rabbits, hashers and pheasants in the hedgerows, hare and deers in the open fields. We also saw a longboat in preparation for up and coming Broadmayne to Dorchester canal!!!

GM’S REPORT: a great away turnout, seventeen in total, people not being put off  with the possibility of a lot of mud. But as it was, the hare was surprisingly  kind and kept the route in slightly less muddy direction. Small loop around north west side of Broadmayne , good use of bars and t-bars taking in the graveyard and eventually doubling back to cross the main road and do a larger loop on the south side. The route went up Osmington drove to the base of the Ridgeway , back to Glebe Farm (not a footpath) and took in the south drove (a lot of nasty cow shit)back to  Broadmayne.  Muscrat had a very heavy fall as Pollocks and his dog were nearby, both the hare and I agreed that he should take the blame for it.  Finished with a pint or two and a circle in a very warm pub.

   Just Jonnie- he lent a kids torch that he got dded for last time to Just Carly knowing that she would get picked up for it this time. (backfired).  M.S.B took Just Carly’s DD as she departed early (voted nearest lookalike).
